Jura Island of Deer

A short film shot on the remote magical Island of Jura, on the West Coast of Scotland. The deer outnumber the humans 40:1 on this island which is nearly 3 times the size of Manhattan but with just over 220 people living there.

I went there to make a film about the human interaction with the deer which are sustainably culled to keep the deer population healthy. Craig Rozga is the Head Stalker of the Ruantallain Estate which is on the far West Coast of this Island and can only be reached by boat or a days rough walking. Here there are no humans only the deer, the eagles and the ravens sharing this magical wilderness. It is one of the most beautiful untouched places I have ever visited.

This film is in fond memory of Peter Campbell who sadly passed away earlier this year. No one knew Jura and its deer better than him. And although very ill at the time he gave his incredible knowledge wonderful voice to the film.
